AZ Rep. Gabrielle Giffords Shot in Head at Event: 5 Dead, Including Child and Fed Judge UPDATE- Report: Giffords‘ Gunman ’Left Wing, Quite Liberal’

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle “Gabby” Giffords (D-AZ) was shot in the head outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event Saturday morning. Numerous national news outlets reported earlier she had died, but a doctor said during a press conference Saturday afternoon that she is alive and he expects her to live after undergoing surgery. The most updated reports say 18 people were injured, while five have died, including a 9-year-old girl died.

“I’m very optimistic about her recovery.” Dr. Peter Rhee said at an afternoon news conference at University Medical Center in Tucson. “She was shot one time in the head through and through,”

According to the Arizona Republic, the bullet entered one side of her head and exited the other after passing through her brain, Rhee said.

According to Business Insider, a woman claiming to have been a classmate of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords‘ alleged shooter Jared Loughner says he has run into the Congresswoman once before and that he’s “left wing” and “quite liberal.” That comes as some on the left are trying to paint Loughner as one who succumbed to angry, Tea Party rhetoric.

Business Insider says Laughner’s classmate made the revelations about his political persuasions via her Twitter account:



But when news of the shooting broke, some conservatives, especially Tea Party officials, expressed concern that the left might try to label that gunman as a radical right-winger.

While Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips condemned the attack on Giffords, he told The Hill was concerned the Tea Party movement would be blamed for the incident.

“While we need to take a moment to extend our sympathies to the families of those who died, we cannot allow the hard left to do what it tried to do in 1995 after the Oklahoma City bombing,” he said.

Debbi Dooley, a national coordinator for Tea Party Patriots, echoed a similar sentiment to Congress.org. “A lot of people have bets on how long it will take before they blame this on the tea party and that’s absolutely ridiculous,” she said. Her group condemned the attack via Facebook.

“This heinous act will change the interaction between elected officials and their constituents,” the group’s Facebook wall said. “People also pray for the safety of congressmen, senators, President Obama and other elected officials in the aftermath of this shooting.”

Phillips and Dooley were right.

“Some prominent liberal bloggers wasted little time before politicizing the horrific and tragic shooting of a congresswoman in Arizona on Saturday,” Politics Daily’s Matt Lewis writes.

For example, Markos Moulitsas, founder of the liberal website DailyKos, sent numerous tweets chiding Palin and the right for the attack:

He doesn’t have super powers, but he dresses like a superhero.

Seattle residents are becoming familiar with an anonymous crime fighter known only as “Phoenix Jones.” Like a comic book star, he has a skin-tight suit and caries weapons such as a taser and pepper spray. And he recently rescued a man going through a car jacking:

“I symbolize that the average person doesn’t have to walk around and see bad things and do nothing,” Phoenix told the news station. He explained that he started fighting crime about nine months ago and that it’s dangerous work: he’s been stabbed and had a gun pulled on him a few times.

But he doesn’t recommend this life for everyone: “I don’t condone people walking around on the street with masks. Everyone on my team either has a military background or a mixed martial arts background, and we’re well aware of what its costs to do what we do.”

Local Police department spokesman Jeff Kappel wasn’t as opposed to the vigilantly idea as one might think. “There’s nothing wrong with citizens getting involved with the criminal justice process – as long as they follow it all the way through,” the Daily Mail reports.

PREDICTION- Now the liberals and the ACLU will be looking to take away his taser, mace and nightstick for violating the criminals civil rights. Ohio officer Joshua Campbell swung by a local Walgreen’s story to pick up footage of a robbery that occurred just hours earlier. While waiting in line to talk with the clerk, Campbell notices the man in front of him reach over the counter and start raiding the cash register. After taking a few seconds to process the unbelievable coincidence, he pulls his gun and steps in.

The footage is amazing, especially after the would-be bandit puts up a fight. Campbell, who at one point has a gun to the man’s head, has to eventually fling the man to the ground using some moves that would make some wrestling coaches very proud:

Police have released security footage showing the moments a Jacksonville, FL arsonist set fire to a salon — and barely escaped the consuming fire:



The Florida Times-Union reports early damage estimates are as high as $100,000. Salon owner Semone Blair is a former model who, after falling on hard times, worked to raise enough capital to open the business.

“If they can find the person, then I will definitely have some peace in myself,” she told the Times-Union. “Knowing they are still out there, and not knowing why they did that is still an obstacle. … I am paranoid.”

Police released the video in hopes that someone can identify the suspect.
