Obama Threatens to Withhold Social Security Checks from Seniors and Vets

President Barack Obama raised the stakes in the third straight day of budget talks on Tuesday by warning that senior citizens and veterans may suffer first if the debt ceiling is not raised by August 2.

The president said in an interview with U.S. television network CBS that checks to recipients of the Social Security retirement program may not go out in early August if he and congressional leaders do not agree on a debt deal.

"I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue," Obama said. "Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," Obama said. He said veterans checks and disability benefits could also be affected without a deal.

ANOTHER DEMOCRAT LIE: Harry Reid Was Wrong: CBO Says Social Security Running Permanent Deficit

It looks like Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) was wrong. New congressional projects released today show Social Security’s finances are getting worse as the economy struggles to recover and millions of baby boomers stand at the brink of retirement, in stark contrast to recent comments made by the Senate Minority Leader.

Those projections specifically show Social Security running deficits every year until its trust funds are eventually drained in about 2037.

This year alone, Social Security is projected to collect $45 billion less in payroll taxes than it pays out in retirement, disability and survivor benefits, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday. That figure swells to $130 billion when a new one-year cut in payroll taxes is included, though Congress has promised to repay any lost revenue from the tax cut. Social Security will post nearly $600 billion in deficits over the next decade

The massive retirement program has been feeling the effects of a struggling economy for several years. The program first went into deficit last year – the first deficit since it was last overhauled in the 1980s. But CBO said last year that Social Security would post surpluses for a few more years before permanently slipping into deficits in 2016.

The outlook, however, has grown bleaker as the nation struggles to recover from its worst economic crisis since Social Security was enacted during the Great Depression. In the short term, Social Security is suffering from a weak economy that has payroll taxes lagging and applications for benefits rising. In the long term, Social Security will be strained by the growing number of baby boomers retiring and applying for benefits.

Co-chair of Obama debt panel: Social Security is 'milk cow with 310 million t*ts!'

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- An advocacy group is calling for the ouster of former Sen. Alan Simpson, the co-chairman of President Obama's bipartisan debt commission, who described Social Security as a "milk cow with 310 million tits!" in an email.

Ashley Carson, executive director of the Older Women's League, wrote in a blog post in April that Simpson is targeting Social Security to fix the deficit even though it "doesn't contribute" to the country's debt problem. She also accused Simpson of "disgusting ageism and sexism" in characterizing those who oppose cuts to benefits as "Gray Panthers" and "Pink Panthers."

In his email to Carson, which was sent Monday night, Simpson said he is defending Social Security, not trying to undermine it, and referred her to information showing the program's long-range shortfalls.


He went on: "I've made some plenty smart cracks about people on Social Security who milk it to the last degree. You know 'em too. It's the same with any system in America. We've reached a point now where it's like a milk cow with 310 million tits! Call when you get honest work!" READ MORE...

Barry Wong of Phoenix also wants state-regulated utilities to check the immigration status of customers.

Wong believes Arizona ratepayers shouldn't have to pay for an illegal immigrant population.

In an interview with The Associated Press Wednesday, Wong said the additional demand on utility services by illegal immigrants would drive up costs for all ratepayers because it puts pressure on the existing infrastructure.

A new report from Numbers USA, which advocates for limits on immigration into the United States, says each American paid $330 last year to provide government services for illegal aliens.

Numbers USA staffer Chad MacDonald said if an amnesty plan becomes law, allowing illegals from coast-to-coast to suddenly establish citizenship, their retirement program will set U.S. taxpayers back an estimated $2.6 trillion.

In an interview with WND, MacDonald addressed a long list of issues, including the costs of illegal immigration.

"Last year, every American on the average paid $330 to provide government services for low-education illegal immigrant households," he said. "If amnesty legislation would be passed by Congress, like the proposal from 2007, American taxpayers would have to pay $2.6 trillion in retirement costs to those amnestied illegal aliens."

MacDonald and a team of volunteers has been following the Tea Party Express, an organization that has been traveling the country staging rallies to protest the high costs of government and advocate for more individual rights and responsibilities. Last Friday we received letters from Social Security informing us that as seniors, my wife and I were going to receive a stimulus payment of $250 each.

We've suffered like everyone else in the last year, but we're not destitute.

When George W. Bush gave out tax gifts, we never received one because they at least excluded the group which the current administration refers to as "rich" and intends to tax the daylights out of to give more to "the lesser advantaged."

Bush didn't try to buy seniors' votes, but it looks like Barack Obama is.

What poor judgment.

We have already given ours to charity, 80 percent to deserving youth groups.

ANOTHER LIE? Budget chief contradicts Obama on Medicare costs

WASHINGTON — Congress' chief budget officer is contradicting President Barack Obama's oft-stated claim that seniors wouldn't see their Medicare benefits cut under a health care overhaul.

The head of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Douglas Elmendorf, told senators Tuesday that seniors in Medicare's managed care plans would see reduced benefits under a bill in the Finance Committee.

The bill would cut payments to the Medicare Advantage plans by more than $100 billion over 10 years.

Elmendorf said the changes would reduce the extra benefits that would be made available to beneficiaries.

Critics say the plans are overpaid, while supporters say they work well.

Obama says cuts to Medicare providers won't reduce seniors' benefits.
