Could it be? Is there something here that both Chris Matthews and Glenn Beck might actually agree on?

In covering the unrest in Egypt all week, Glenn has repeated a number of times that the United States has not managed its relationship with Egypt in an honorable way, first throwing our support behind Mubarak — a dictator for nearly three decades — and now quickly abandoning that relationship as the Mubarak regime crumbles under public pressure.

During a Friday appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Matthews admitted that while he normally supports President Barack Obama, he feels “ashamed as an American” over how the federal government has handled the unfolding crisis in Egypt.

“We’re not handling [the situation] as Americans should handle a matter like this,” Matthews said. “And Barack Obama, as much as I support him in many ways, there is a transactional quality to the guy that is chilling.”

“You treat your friends a certain way, you’re loyal to them. And when they’re wrong you try to stick with them,” Matthews said. “What are we good at here? What have we done as leaders and as friends? Nothing except watch. That’s all we do now.”

As Egypt continues to burn… Islamic radicals escaped from prison, the Muslim Brotherhood joined Elbaradei on the street, and socialists continued to mobilze protests in Cairo… Barack Obama watched basketball and partied on Saturday.

On Saturday, Obama spent the morning watching his daughter play basketball.
Then on Saturday night he went out and partied with David Axelrod.

As thirty years of United States Middle East strategy teeters on collapse, Barack Obama spent Saturday night at a going away party for David Axelrod who is leaving the administration to set up Obama’s reelection campaign in Chicago. The party was held at the Dupont Circle condo of former Obama aide Linda Douglass.

Douglass, who is now with the National Journal, played host to a gathering of cabinet secretaries including Arne Duncan (Education), Timothy Geithner (Treasury) and Steven Chu (Energy) and prominent reporters including Major Garrett (National Journal), Jake Tapper (ABC), Chuck Todd (NBC) and John Harwood (CNBC/New York Times).

Obama spent nearly two hours at the party.

Greta Van Sustern appears to be the only one in the media to report on Obama’s party with her colleagues. Were it not for her posting the pool reports by the National Journal’s Rebecca Kaplan at Fox News’ GretaWire, the public would not know that Obama spent Saturday night partying with the media while Egypt burns.

Meanwhile… Things are getting so bad that even Lebanon is evacuating their citizens from Egypt.

Trump Blasts Obama’s China Love During SOTU

China is not a friend of the US and should not have been praised during President Obama’s State of the Union speech Tuesday.

That’s how CNBC paraphrased Donald Trump’s reaction to the State of the Union speech. In addition to calling the remarks “mostly talk,” Trump launched into an impassioned diatribe about the president heaping praise on the communist country.

“Interestingly, he was talking about how great China is … [but] it’s supposed to be a speech about us,” he said. “And China’s been hurting this country and hurting it very badly.”

“I thought the low point was when he talked about how great China was,“ Trump added ”To me that was inappropriate to have in this speech, especially in light of what has happened with China.”

He even went as far as to say China is “not a friend of this country”:

Trump realizes it could be seen as odd to be upset with China when he himself does business with the country. But he said he has “no choice” but to buy certain products from the country, and if China adhered to fair trade principles, he wouldn’t have as much of a problem.

Does it sound like he’s hoping to one day give his own SOTU speech?

Obama Makes Dangerous Recess Appointment

The White House announced Wednesday that Obama would use his power to make recess appointments to fill envoy posts to Azerbaijan, Syria and NATO allies Turkey and the Czech Republic and appoint James Cole as assistant attorney general.

Specific senators had blocked or refused to consider the confirmations of the nominees for various reasons, including questions about their qualifications. But in the most high-profile case, that of the new envoy to Syria, Robert Ford, a number of senators objected because they believed sending an ambassador to the country would reward it for bad behavior.

“Making underserved concessions to Syria tells the regime in Damascus that it can continue to pursue its dangerous agenda and not face any consequences from the U.S.,” Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen R-Fla., the incoming chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a statement. “That is the wrong message to be sending to a regime which continues to harm and threaten U.S. interests and those of such critical allies as Israel.”

The administration had argued that returning an ambassador to Syria after a five-year absence would help persuade Syria to change its policies regarding Israel, Lebanon, Iraq and support for extremist groups. Syria is designated a “state sponsor of terrorism” by the State Department.

President George W. Bush’s administration withdrew a full-time ambassador from Syria in 2005 after terrorism accusations and to protest the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, killed in a Beirut truck bombing that his supporters blamed on Syria. After the 2010 elections, it’s not exactly news that Obama has lost America. But in a less public referendum, he also lost the world. Obama’s cocktail party tour of the world’s capitals may look impressive on a map, but is irrelevant on a policy level. In less than two years, the White House has gone from being the center of world leadership to being irrelevant, from protecting world freedom to serving as a global party planning committee.

Even the Bush Administration’s harshest critics could never have credibly claimed that George W. Bush was irrelevant. He might have been hated, pilloried and shouted about– but he couldn’t be ignored. However Obama can be safely ignored. Invited to parties, given the chance to show off his cosmopolitan sophisticated by reciting one or two words in the local lingo, read off a teleprompter, along with some cant about the need for everyone to pull together and make the world a better place, and then dismissed for the rest of the evening.

As a world leader, he makes a passable party guest. He has a broad smile, brings along his own gifts and is famous in the way that celebrities, rather than prime ministers and presidents are famous. On an invitation list, he is more Bono than Sarkozy, Leonardo DiCaprio not Putin. You don’t invite him to talk turkey, not even on Thanksgiving. He’s just one of those famous people with a passing interest in politics who gets good media attention, but who has nothing worthwhile to say. READ MORE...
