FCC Democrats Seize Control of Internet- Pass Net Neutrality

Remember: Democrats are only happy when they can tax you or control you.
Today the three democrats on the FCC passed their net neutrality law.
It will likely face a court challenge.
Reuters reported:

U.S. communications regulators adopted Internet traffic rules on Tuesday that prevent providers from blocking lawful content but still let them ration access to their networks.

The Federal Communications Commission approved the “Open Internet” order after FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski’s plan got the support of fellow Democrats Michael Copps and Mignon Clyburn.

The rules aim to strike a balance between the interests of Internet service providers, content companies and consumers, but some industry analysts think a court challenge is still likely.

At issue is whether regulators need to guarantee that all stakeholders continue to have reasonable access to the Internet, a principle often called “net neutrality,” or whether the Internet is best left to flourish unregulated.

The FCC’s ability to regulate the Internet has been in doubt since an appeals court in April said the agency lacked the authority to stop cable company Comcast Corp from blocking bandwidth-hogging applications.

Senior FCC officials have said they will invoke new legal arguments not employed in the Comcast case.

The two Republican commissioners at the agency opposed the latest rule-making effort, saying it was unnecessary and would stifle innovation. Robert McDowell and Meredith Attwell Baker told an FCC open meeting that they believed the rules would fail in court.

There was disagreement on whether the F.C.C. had the legal authority to implement the network neutrality rules, and that authority is certain to face legal challenges in the months ahead

All Americans should be on their knees thanking the tea party. While progressives are busy brainwashing dumb sheep into disliking tea partiers, most intelligent Americans support them.

WASHINGTON, DC- Congressional leaders gave taxpayers an early Christmas present Thursday when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid yielded to tremendous Tea Party opposition and shelved the pork-stuffed $1.3 trillion spending bill he had tried to ram through the lame-duck Congress.

“The death of this massive spending bill is a major victory for the Tea Party and all Americans concerned with the reckless expansion of Big Government,” said Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks. “Congress could not ignore the sweeping rejection of out-of-control spending in the 2010 midterm elections by sneaking this spending binge through the lame-duck session.”

The bill had measured at almost 2,000 pages long, and would have cost taxpayers an estimated $575.13 million per page. Several Senate Republicans had indicated they would support the bill, but FreedomWorks alerted and mobilized its grassroots members, who overwhelmingly opposed the wasteful spending. The outpouring of disapproval convinced many of those senators to side with principle over pork and withdraw their support of the measure.

The gargantuan bill was peppered with $8 billion in earmarks and pet projects, including:

$522,000 for cranberry and blueberry disease and breeding in New Jersey

$500,000 for oyster safety in Florida

$413,000 for peanut research in Alabama

$247,000 for virus-free wine grapes in Washington

$208,000 for beaver management in North Carolina

$300,000 for the Polynesian Voyaging Society in Hawaii

“We applaud Sen. Reid for acknowledging the voice of the American people and shelving this bill until after the Christmas break, when senators will have more time to ensure that the spending bill will reflect the small-government values Americans are demanding from our leaders,” Kibbe said. “We’re calling on all our senators and representatives, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, to commit to a 100 percent pork-free spending bill in 2011.”

“The people sent a message loud and clear to Congress this year: We are sick and tired of business as usual in Washington. We are watching and we’re not going away,” Kibbe added. “We’re proud to stand with the true fiscal conservatives in the Senate, including Republican Sens. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Jim DeMint of South Carolina, who demanded that their colleagues read the bills before voting on them instead of rushing them through a lame-duck Congress with no consideration or oversight.”

America's military isn't going 'gay' quite yet.

While President Obama plans this week to sign the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy banning open homosexuality in the military, the policy must remain in force until the president, the secretary of defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff can certify that the change will not impair combat readiness.

Before that happens the military must rewrite laws and regulations that could affect same-sex relationships, such as the Uniform Code of Military Justice ban on sodomy, and also indoctrinate soldiers, sailors and airmen to tolerate open homosexuality. The transition period is expected to take a year.

"It's important for people to know that this is not over," said Robert Knight, a leading opponent of the homosexual political agenda. "There are no permanent victories or defeats in politics. And this can be reversed at some point, in a more conservative Congress."


"Congress will have to legalize consensual sodomy, which is currently illegal under the UCMJ," said retired Army Col. Dick Black, former chief of the Army's Criminal Law Division and a Virginia state legislator. "There's a backlash brewing. This is a very serious issue for a lot of people. We're entering the presidential season, and if there's a candidate who says he will issue an executive order to ban homosexuality in the military, a lot of people would be very fired up about that." ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Repeal: Congress Ignores Combat Troops

On Saturday the United States Senate voted for legislation that will impose heavy, unnecessary burdens on the backs of military men and women. They are the ones who will pay a very high price for Congress’ reckless decision to help President Barack Obama deliver on political campaign promises to LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) activists.

Sixty-five senators voted for the no-amendments-allowed “privileged” bill in a lame-duck session. History will note that the outgoing 111th Congress acted with needless haste allowing no time for substantive hearings to examine findings and controversial recommendations in the Pentagon’s Comprehensive Review Working Group Report.

Liberals in Congress knew that the report could not withstand informed scrutiny, so Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) persuaded others to join her in breaking their word on legislative priorities—a betrayal that belied her own previous statements calling for full and open debate. Full hearings and informed oversight probably would have halted this controversial bill.

Adding insult to grievous and possibly irreversible injury, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) celebrated “victory” for his legislation by praising the results of First Amendment rights enjoyed by well-funded, mostly-civilian LGBT Left groups. The remark was a thoughtless affront to concerned combat troops who tried to express support for the current law through the Pentagon’s Working Group process.

Without providing quantitative data on the results of focus groups nationwide and overseas, the Working Group conceded, “Our sense is that the majority of views expressed were against repeal.’” (p. 49) Not only were these opinions disrespected, Adm. Mike Mullen has already stated more than once that anyone who disagrees with the LGBT law no longer will be welcome to serve.

In addition to involuntary personnel losses due to Adm. Mullen’s “zero tolerance” of dissent, cross-tabbed data displayed on the 2010 DADT Survey website indicate that among Army combat arms personnel, 21.4% would leave sooner than planned, and 14.6% would think about leaving–a total potential loss of more than a third (36%) of those valuable troops. FCC to Vote on Internet Regulation Plan Despite Economic Warnings

Lawmakers are on high alert as the Federal Communications Commission prepares to vote on a plan to regulate the Internet despite warnings that it could choke industry investment and hurt the economy as a whole.

The five-member commission plans to unveil, and vote on, the so-called "net neutrality" proposal on Tuesday.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have been saying for months that Congress, not the Obama administration, should take the lead role in deciding whether and how much to police the web. But despite a brief backing-off earlier in the year, the FCC has pushed ahead with its new regulatory plan.

The move raises concern that the FCC could soon have its regulatory foot in the door of the wild West of the Internet -- with an eye toward eventually exerting tighter control over content at a time when sites like WikiLeaks openly snub the government.

The FCC proposal is viewed as a major breakthrough, for better or worse, for Internet oversight. And if the plan passes, it could trigger a nasty showdown with Congress next year. READ MORE...

‘$823,200 to Study Genitalia Washing’: Sen. Coburn Releases Gov’t Waste Report

$175 million to maintain an unused monkey house. $1.8 million for a museum dedicated to old Las Vegas signs. $615,000 to digitize a Grateful Dead collection. And $823,200 to study genitalia washing in South Africa. Those are just some of the projects that Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) uses as examples of government waste in his annual “Wastebook” report released today.

“During these difficult times when families are struggling to make ends meet, the federal government can best assist hard working Americans by keeping their taxes low and not burdening them with higher debt,” Coburn says in the report’s introduction. “Congress can do so by not spending money we do not have on things we do not need, like the over $11.5 billion of examples provided in this report.”

“As you look at these examples, ask yourself: at a time when we are borrowing over $44,000 for every person in the country, are these items a priority and are they a federal responsibility?” he encourages readers. “Many taxpayers will no doubt agree that the wasteful spending uncovered in this report is not what they had in mind when they filed their taxes in April. Few will find that they represent the best our government has to offer.”

According to The Hill, some of the projects mentioned in the report were paid for using controversial earmarks.

Interested parties can read the entire report for more examples, including: $224,000 for a bus statue; $609,160 for a zoo to develop a “Wolfquest” video game; and $997,766 to install poetry at zoos nationwide.

Well-intentioned people across the political spectrum will argue about the best way to get us back on track. But we can all agree that cutting wasteful and low- priority spending from the budget is not only sensible, but essential,” Coburn says.

Ohio officer Joshua Campbell swung by a local Walgreen’s story to pick up footage of a robbery that occurred just hours earlier. While waiting in line to talk with the clerk, Campbell notices the man in front of him reach over the counter and start raiding the cash register. After taking a few seconds to process the unbelievable coincidence, he pulls his gun and steps in.

The footage is amazing, especially after the would-be bandit puts up a fight. Campbell, who at one point has a gun to the man’s head, has to eventually fling the man to the ground using some moves that would make some wrestling coaches very proud:

Police have released security footage showing the moments a Jacksonville, FL arsonist set fire to a salon — and barely escaped the consuming fire:



The Florida Times-Union reports early damage estimates are as high as $100,000. Salon owner Semone Blair is a former model who, after falling on hard times, worked to raise enough capital to open the business.

“If they can find the person, then I will definitely have some peace in myself,” she told the Times-Union. “Knowing they are still out there, and not knowing why they did that is still an obstacle. … I am paranoid.”

Police released the video in hopes that someone can identify the suspect.

Obama Drilling Moratorium Leads to Higher Gas Prices... Oil prices rise to nearly 92 dollars...

Redstate- Offshore oil and gas wells typically are able to produce at high rates at the beginning of their lives. Reserves are not infinite, so that means a rapid natural rate of decline as reserves deplete. “Reserve replacement” is a big issue; we often say that every day that you don’t replace production in the oilfield means you’re just slowly going out of business.

How do you replace production? By drilling new wells and working on old ones.

But you need permits to work on wells and permits to drill new ones.

According to Secretary Salazar, the Deepwater Drilling Moratorium is over. Besides that, there never was a Moratorium for shallow water operations. Maybe so, but the fact remains that only 18-20 drilling permits have been issued since May. That would have been the typical amount of permits in an typical month before the Deepwater Horizon blowout.

Regardless of the semantics, the slowdown of rig work is starting to show up in production (graph courtesy Poe Leggette):



Note that the 2010 Hurricane Season was relatively free from storms, so production was hardly disrupted at all. On top of that, virtually all of the newly-permitted wells are shallow water gas wells; oil wells have become very difficult to permit under the new rules.

Under the Moratorium, completion operations were allowed to continue in the deepwater. Under the “New Drilling Rules” imposed upon lifting the Moratorium, even completion activity has ground to a halt. Paper may be moving through the BOEMRE, but it is at a snail’s pace.

Before the accident, the Gulf of Mexico supplied 25% of the oil and 11% of the natural gas that the U.S. consumes every day.

If the Obama Administration is intent on permanently crippling the offshore oil and gas industry and raising the price of conventional fuels, there’s no quicker way than curtailing offshore rig activity.
