The Left Should Think Twice Before Charging ‘Racism’

Without Noah Webster’s knowledge, the definition of a “racist” has been diluted and redefined to mean “a person who disagrees with a liberal,” or in more explicit terms, “any individual who uses logic to divulge evidence of liberal malfeasance.” For years, the left has used race as a bully tactic to smear and debunk those on the receiving end of the label. This desperate and exploitative attempt at winning political arguments comes at a great cost to democracy, interpersonal relations and our nation’s internal progress.

The latest James O’Keefe saga exemplifies the left’s common practice of exploiting the issue of race for personal and political gain. Liberal journalist Max Blumenthal’s devoid-of-logic theoretical construct (that O’Keefe is a racist) exemplifies the desperate measures some will take to avoid the pains of reality. Blumenthal bases his racism charge on O’Keefe’s alleged disdain for affirmative action, his efforts to expose ACORN and his attendance at an event that featured a “white nationalist.”

The merits of these accusations have already been brilliantly challenged by Larry O’Connor and others, but to quickly provide summary thoughts: Opposition to affirmative action is not inherently racist. In fact, the majority of Americans oppose affirmative action practices. Furthermore, even if O’Keefe is a racist (which he’s not), the allegations against ACORN would still be pertinent; the organization is responsible for its behavior regardless of who or what O’Keefe is said to be. Finally, the “white nationalist” event was essentially a panel discussion on a college campus. Thousands of universities hold events with controversial speakers and wingnuts (many of these fringe individuals are, themselves, college professors); mere attendance means nothing in itself.
What’s ironic is that those waging extremist charges against O’Keefe are the same individuals who had no problem with Barack Obama’s working relationship with former domestic-terrorist Bill Ayers. And let’s not forget Obama’s commiserating with Rev. Wright, a radical former pastor who has publicly stated his belief that the U.S. government created AIDS in an effort to murder African Americans. One would hardly call Ayers’ students (ironically, he’s a professor) unrepentant terrorists merely for showing up to class, nor would one unequivocally compare an attendee’s beliefs to that of the event speaker. Blumenthal’s weak corroborative evidence is rooted in quicksand.

The logic behind this frequently-used bully tactic is actually quite easy to follow. When the left starts flinging charges of racism when race plays no legitimate factor in a given situation, it generally means the individual on the receiving end has pinched an ideological nerve. Rather than debating issues on their merits, “claiming racism” is a strategy through which leftists may turn attention away from viable debate. This cycle has been standard for decades.

As liberals like Blumenthal continue to exploit race, their hypocrisy is deafening. The Democrats’ past and current historical constructs expose a party that is more than guilty of the racial charges it so regularly wages. Consider just a few of the comments, both past and present, that have come from the left:

When speaking about Obama as a potential presidential candidate, Sen. Harry Reid called him:

…a ‘light skinned’ African-American ‘with no Negro dialect,’ unless he wanted to have one.

And who can forget Joe Biden’s eloquent pre-campaign analysis of Obama: “I mean, you got the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”

And then there’s Al Gore’s former campaign manager, Donna Brazile. According to Brazile:

Republicans bring out Colin Powell and J.C. Watts because they have no program, no policy. They have no love and no joy. They’d rather take pictures with black children than feed them.

Last, but not least, was Lyndon B. Johnson’s alleged statement: “I’ll have those [insert “n-word”] voting Democratic for the next 200 years.”

And these are only a few examples. When it comes to “claiming racism,” the left needs to stop playing the dangerous game of “kettle or pot.” History undoubtedly shows the Republican Party’s staunch support for civil rights and the Democratic Party’s startling disregard for these same egalitarian tenets. After all, it was the GOP’s own Abraham Lincoln who freed the slaves and began the painful process of social reconstruction. This history is essential to understanding how racial charges based on party affiliation are inaccurate, especially considering the Democratic Party’s dark civil rights history. READ MORE...

  1. You can call Democrats a racist party. But the past is in the past. The Southern Democratic bloc and their descendants that opposed civil rights, has moved to the Republican Party starting with Nixon's Southern Strategy in the 70s, and picking up speed through the '80s. Essentially, the Republican Party has becomea party of the southeastern United States and some of the larger sparsely populated states to the west.

Conservatives have little in the way support from African Americans. That's a fact. Which means, Conservatives have a problem. How are they going to solve it? If they're consistent, it will be with the usual litany of paternalistic lecturing. It hasn't worked before, and it won't work again.

  2. ACTUALLY...YOU'RE WRONG..but someone obviously has been successful in indoctrinating you with inaccurate information. Typical of a lefty.

Conservatives shouldn't have to pander to blacks and because they don't, that somehow makes them racists? Did you even consider that maybe it's uneducated blacks and koolaid drinking blacks that 'think' republicans are racist simply because democrats told them they were? Speeches, attack ads etc..without fact checking them? Because that's what democrats do. Nothing has changed with conservatives. They're colorblind and are for the freedom of the individual and always have been.

I love how liberals (democrats) make this excuse 'well that was the past' (because they can't win that argument, just use that lame ass excuse) as if the democrats , who still have a sitting Senator ex klan member- are not pushing policies that hurt blacks.

    You're so lame..get a life.

Democrats are the party of racism then, and they are definatly the party of racism now and I can prove it. Look at every city in America with a black democrat Mayor. EVERY ONE.

    Thought so.

  3. You're the only one who's calling anyone a racist Marcus. You're the one throwing out the racist card. So let's get that off the table. And this whole "get a life" thing is just sad. Why are you so belligerent?

I never said anyone had to pander. But if you think writing off an an entire voting bloc is good strategy, I hope there's more like you out there.

  4. I didn't use the racecard you jackass, I used FACTS! A liberals worst nightmare...
    (next to Palin)

Belligerent? I'l show you belligerent you panzi.

Who is writing off an entire voting block?!? There's thousands of blacks who vote republican. So you're saying by not lying to them and smearing the other party and offering free handouts and throwing black mayors in the inner cities to get the black vote and USING blacks (and gays) for votes is writing off a voting block???!!!

You're dumber than I thought. That's the problem with politics and people in this country altogether. It seems people can't think for themselves. People just believe what they see on TV. Democrats are far more corrupt and dishonest and more damaging to society than any other PARTY including the socialist party. At least they're honest about what they want.

    get a life kid.

  5. Ummmm, even with a black, well, so-called "black" President, Obama's 50% white, 25% Kenyan and 25% Arab, so I don't know where the hell 'african american' comes from, more blacks are going conservative. I mean a lot more. Young black unemployment is over 50%. Yes, I believe most are just lazy and do not want to work, but the older black folks do want to work and they also have high unemployment because democrats have destroyed the job market.

As a black man, let me tell you a little something about democrats. They are no longer the party of the working man. Progressives have taken over the party. White liberal elities run that party and Obama is one of them I dont care what you say, or think.

I personally like Alan Keyes and Allen West and Michele Bachman. I also believe that Sarah palin, while not the brightest woman in the world, would have done a heck of a better job than Obama, is blacker than Obama, and would have been better for the black community than Obama.

Palin would not continue aborting black babies, ending school vouchers while continuing to fund poor public schools that keep our kids dumb and reading on a 6th grade level in high school, increase incarceration rates, tenn pregnancy rates, drug use and single motherhood while replacing God in the schools with homosexuality. Sarah Palin would create jobs, all she would have to do is create 1 and she would surpass Obama who keeps losing them, I believe intentionally. Palin wouldn't abandoned the black community and set up planned parenthoods and distribute food stamps while doing nothing else to improve the ghetto's that i come from.

Democrats are users, they're liars and they are and always wil be racists and crisis manufacturers.

Look who represents the democrat party. The Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons the Bobby Rush's. Come on , man!

    Barbara Boser? Pelosi? Schumer? Dodd?

Them bitches didnt con me. Im for energy independence, smaller smarter government, low taxes, incentives for hard work and rewards for personal responsibility. I'm against my tax dollars going to kill my people's babies. I'm against paying taxes for failing public schools, especially if you have no damn kids going there! How dumb is that?

Social security is broke, Medicaid, Amtrak, The Post Office, Fannie Mae-Freddie- Why are we funding ACORN and LaRazza??? The Unions are in bed with the democrats. Why I gotta pay for other p[eoples health care when they got cell phones? Man, that bitch didnt con this one.
Im a proud conservative and any sellout brother who is a democrat can kiss my big black ass.

  6. So, Marcus why is it the only people who have been "indoctrinated" are people who disagree with you? How do you know you haven't been indoctrinated? Or, maybe you're the one who wants to indoctrinate. Some power hungry guy. No shortage of those on the conservative side.

That cross your mind? Maybe you're just an angry guy watching the world pass him by. That occur to you?

  7. So after Marcus totally destroyed you and your weak comment, all you have for a comeback is that? lol He doesn't sound angry to me, as he really makes a good point and destroys your weak one. He also seems correct that you are the one that has been indoctrinated. I see you havent responded to any of his statements, factual ones at that. Marcus, if you're reading this, I agree with you. You are dead on brother.
