Chris Wallace Takes Tim Geithner to Task Over Obama’s Spending

Tim Geithner was on ‘Fox News Sunday’ today and it seemed a rattled Treasury Secretary was unable to give a straight answer to Chris Wallace. Failing to explain any contingency plans that President Obama said he was investigating, an elusive Geithner only said that his plan was for Congress to raise the debt ceiling. Asked repeatedly what would happen if the debt limit was not raised by the August 2nd deadline, Geithner would not give a definite plan of action.

Mentioning the “80 million” checks written each month by the U.S. Government, Geithner would not say if any program or agency would receive priority from the payouts. Saying, “we will do everything we can to mitigate the damage” Geithner reiterated the fact that “we do not have the ability, Chris, to protect the American people from the consequences of Congress not” raising the debt ceiling.

Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh accused President Barack Obama in a video released Wednesday of "lying" about the impact of not raising the national debt ceiling in the next three weeks and went on to ask, "Have you no shame, sir?"

Republican Rep. Joe Walsh says "President Obama, quit lying," in the video posted online. He says there is "plenty of money" to pay debt and cover Social Security even if the limit isn't raised.

Walsh claims Obama will not get congressional approval to increase the $14.3 trillion debt limit unless the Democratic president backs a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, which Obama opposes. Now, that same guy (Oliver Darcy) is back with another experiment: If college students are opposed to the Republican plan to cut spending to reduce the national debt, might they be willing to reduce the deficit by paying their share of the national debt?

Would those college students sign a pledge vowing to pay their approximate $47,000 share? The answer?

Well, there was this: “I don’t contribute to the national debt.”

This: “I don’t have any debt.”

And this: “It’s not my debt.”

We’ll take that as a “no.” But those curious responses beg the question: Have these college students ever taken an economics class? “It’s not my debt.” Really?

But the real gems come in the second half of the video, when the students offer their suggestions on how to get rid of the national debt. You know, like “abolish the government” and “Fu** the military.”
