First lady Michelle Obama didn't feel like waiting around cold, boring old Washington, D.C., for her husband and Congress to wrap up their work for the year. So she simply stuck the taxpayers with the $63,000 tab to start her Hawaiian vacation a bit early — just a few short months after the Spain vacation with her gal-pals that set us all back a pretty penny.
With her husband announcing a two-year pay freeze for federal employees as a way to save taxpayers a few precious dollars, it's jaw-dropping that Michelle Obama could be so relentlessly politically tone-deaf. And insensitive. And even a tad bit selfish, spoiled and thoughtless, perhaps? I tend to cringe when folks gratuitously slam the first lady simply because they don't like her husband's policies, but this latest antic on the part of Michelle Obama really takes the cake.

On Sunday night’s episode of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” the feisty former governor took a jab at Michelle Obama’s war on sweets and “unhealthy” eating. The show featured Palin and family on a road trip, during which they decided to make s’mores. While looking for the ingredients, Palin joked about what Michelle might think (via Politico):

A White House official says Michelle Obama will announce details of a plan to put 6,000 salad bars in public school lunchrooms within the next three years.
Mrs. Obama was expected to make the announcement Monday at Riverside Elementary School in Miami.
The National Fruit and Vegetable Alliance, United Fresh Produce Association Foundation and Food, Family, Farming (F3) Foundation are joining to support Mrs. Obama’s campaign against childhood obesity.
The first lady has made boosting fruit and vegetable consumption a major goal of her effort to get people to eat better.
Nearing the midpoint of Michelle Obama’s inaugural term, there is a reported shake-up going on amongst the first lady’s senior staff. Obama’s chief of staff, Susan Sher, is reportedly stepping down after having been on the job for just under a year and a half. Before her White House stint, Sher served as Obama‘s superior at the University of Chicago Medical Center and as an attorney for Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s administration.
Stepping into Sher’s shoes is another close confidante of the Obamas: Tina Tchen.

Mumbai: The US would be spending a whopping $200 million (Rs. 900 crore approx) per day on President Barack Obama's visit to the city.
"The huge amount of around $200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the Presidential visit," a top official of the Maharashtra Government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit said.
About 3,000 people including Secret Service agents, US government officials and journalists would accompany the President. Several officials from the White House and US security agencies are already here for the past one week with helicopters, a ship and high-end security instruments.
"Except for personnel providing immediate security to the President, the US officials may not be allowed to carry weapons. The state police is competent to take care of the security measures and they would be piloting the Presidential convoy," the official said on condition of anonymity.
Navy and Air Force has been asked by the state government to intensify patrolling along the Mumbai coastline and its airspace during Obama's stay. The city's airspace will be closed half-an-hour before the President's arrival for all aircraft barring those carrying the US delegation.
The personnel from SRPF, Force One, besides the NSG contingent stationed here would be roped in for the President's security, the official said.
The area from Hotel Taj, where Obama and his wife Michelle would stay, to Shikra helipad in Colaba would be cordoned off completely during the movement of the President.

President Obama often uses a "Don't tell Michelle" line when he travels on the road and eats fast food.
But the first lady — known for her healthful eating initiatives — had her own fast-food moment while on the road in Milwaukee on Wednesday. Michelle Obama stopped at Miss Katie's Diner and had a cheeseburger and fries, according to TMJ4, a local NBC affiliate.

The drama began after Mrs. Obama stopped off at the Martin Luther King Center on the south side of Chicago to cast an early vote.
After finishing at the machine, Obama went back to the desk and handed in her voting key.
She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos.
"She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband's agenda going," Campbell said.
According to the pool reporter at the scene, the conversation took place IN the voting center not far from the booths.
Illinois state law -- Sec. 17-29 (a) -- states: "No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place, within 100 feet of any polling place."
A top Ilinois State Board of Elections official tells the DRUDGE REPORT how Mrs. Obama may have simply been ignorant of the law and thus violated it unintentionally.
"You kind of have to drop the standard for the first lady, right?" the official explained late Thursday. "I mean, she's prety well liked and probably doesn't know what she's doing."
